The Board of Directors of Levante UD and the Sports Management, after the meeting held a few moments ago, have agreed not to continue with Javier Calleja as the coach of the men's first team.
The Madrid-born coach joined the Levante organization in October 2022 with the goal of taking the Granota team to the top division. On the way to this goal, under Javi Calleja's guidance, Levante had a streak of 19 consecutive matches without a defeat and entered the last league game with the possibility of direct promotion to La Liga. Ultimately, despite Levante's victory, the results of rivals in the promotion race were not favorable, and Levante UD narrowly missed direct promotion by tying on points with the second-placed team, UD Las Palmas, with an unfavorable goal difference. In the promotion playoff, a fateful action in the final seconds of extra time prevented Valencia from ascending.
Levante UD expresses gratitude to Javi Calleja and his coaching staff, consisting of assistant coach Quique Álvarez, goalkeeping coach Jesús Unanua, fitness coach José Romero, and analyst Luismi Loro, for their great commitment and dedication since their arrival at the club. The club appreciates their tireless work, affection for the club and everything it represents, as well as their closeness and good treatment with all members of the organization. Likewise, the club wishes them the best of luck both personally and professionally.
From this moment on, Sporting Director Felipe Miñambres will also take charge of coaching the team until the end of the season and will hold a press conference on Friday along with the spokesperson for the Board of Directors, Maribel Vilaplana.
